In Argentina two consultants presented new reinsurance software, that is already of recognised use in Great Britain, to a meeting that included important operators of the sector.
The consultants ORM Argentina SA and Chiltington Internacional SA had detected some time ago the need to offer computer solutions to the local market . "For that reason we decided to go in search of software, which finally we found in Blem Information Management, an English software house specialising in systems for reinsurance", emphasised Martin Smith, general manager of Chiltington Internacional SA.
Gavin Blem, managing director of the British supplier, demonstrated last month in Buenos Aires, the software systems XLRAS 3 and Rewin 4. The first product administers excess of loss contracts, and second is similar to an integral system of reinsurance accounting administration.
Smith indicated that software is new for the local market of reinsurance. "Not so in London where it has been used for about 10 years", he added.
In the first place, XLRAS offers operators a solution to the "laborious and error prone tasks that calculation of recoveries involves", said Blem during his demonstration.
For its part, ReWin is flexible and open; it consolidates information, facilitates the accounting administration of proportional and non- proportional contracts, and facultative business.
"One of the most important aspects of these systems is that they complement the information analysis capacity that insures have today", emphasised Augusto Goncalves Lamb, director general of ORM Argentina SA.
Chiltington is a consultant specialising in insurance and reinsurance, with vast experience in the English market, that has branches in Australia, Germany, the United States, and from 1999, has been based in Argentina.
For their part, ORM is a consultant specialising in information technology, whose origin dates from 1996. "We were born of the need to provide technological solutions to the insurance market, today being a leader in the ART segment", recalls Guillermo Mangini, president of the company.
Accuracy and Speed
According to Blem, during his presentations to the local market, the benefits of the XLRAS and Rewin to the user are the following:
• aid to determine with accuracy and speed the amounts recoverable in XL (excess of loss) contracts ;
• reduce the cycle of the calculation of recovery from weeks to hours;
• allows the processing of all types information;
• is friendly to the users of the Microsoft Office;
• analyses futures scenes like the IBNR or the reinsurance contract renewals;
• requires a low level of investment in hardware
